The Spring-Summer 2019 runways were crazy for polka dots, as designers have been feeling really dotty and have hence adopted the perky print, making some fabulous outfits out of it.

But let’s rewind a bit and go back to the roots of polka dots – well not roots per se, but we know you’re already thinking of Minnie Mouse as we speak. But if we had to go back in time, we’d say these gorgeous retro 50s midi skirts would take the lead. Polka dots were mostly reigning supreme during the fifties and then again in the eighties. Fast forward to today, polka dots are the leading trends on the catwalks, not to mention the print of choice for most designers and Fashion Houses – we’re looking at you Carolina Herrera. For instance, Hedi Slimane worked with this print to create a bouffant mini dress for Céline, while Max Mara sent out chic polka doted coats down the runway. But hey, to each his own, right?
