Alessandro Michele’s love for antique, gender fluidity and eclecticism was alive and well on Tuesday night, at the heart of the Capitolini Museums in Rome. The venue itself was echoing the creative director’s quirky vision, bringing together his love for exploration and most of all, his admiration of history, antiques and originality.

The conversation between the past and the present couldn’t be better placed than in the oldest museum in the world, where show-goers were invited to revel in a beautifully peculiar experience, worthy of the House’s legacy. The venue was drenched in darkness and Michele sent out models seeking to be found by flashlights like objects in the dark. And so the collection itself was full of roman inspirations, from the billowing red capes to Ancient roman togas and tunics, alongside a series of Vatican references. But amidst the sea of ancient inspirations, there was also Alessandro Michele’s bold eclecticism at the forefront of the collection, what with the Mickey Mouse motifs and the gorgeous draping techniques. But perhaps the most inspiring theme of this particular collection was the freedom of choice in all its glory, mostly apparent through tees featuring the slogan “My body, my choice”. Michele’s eternal quest to bring together ancient vibes and modern freedom is something to be praised and the Cruise 2020 show was a testament to his hard work.
