In collaboration with Tashkeel and Design Days Dubai, Van Cleef & Arpels held the 2016 edition of “The Middle East Emergent Designer Prize”. Ranim Orouk was the winning designer for her piece, “Glow”, which will be showcased in the house’s booth until March 18th.
“I am so honored that Glow was selected at the design for this year’s Middle East Emergent Designer Prize,” said winner Orouk after being announced. “This Prize provides encouragement and support for designers, and I am proud that the design sector here in the UAE provides such opportunities. I’d like to thank Design Days Dubai and Tashkeel and very much look forward to visiting L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris for what will be a truly amazing experience.”
Interpreting the theme of nature, Orouk’s piece “Glow” finds its inspiration in the jellyfish. It is versatile and can be used as a ceiling chandelier or a floor lamp. Combining traditional methods of glassblowing and advanced 3D printing, it takes the form and function of this sea creature with its curved acrylic rods mimicking the form of jellyfish legs.
“After yet another successful edition of The Prize, Van Cleef & Arpels, along with our collaborators Tashkeel and Design Days Dubai, will continue to encourage and provide opportunities for designers here to produce and present their work on an international stage,” said Alessandro Maffi, Managing Director Van Cleef & Arpels Middle East & India.
