Only a few of us might recall the mighty west, but Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s Creative Director, gently reminded us by searching into the House’s archives and reminiscing upon the discovery of the Lascaux cave in 1940. This discovery deeply influenced Christian Dior in 1951, who took the rock paintings and made a print from them for his Ovale line. And now, Chiuri implemented the wild wild west’s raw femininity and spirit into her Resort collection, unveiling a magical sunset view with glorious hot-air balloons floating in the distance, in LA’s desert.

The result was a beautiful trip down memory lane, with guests watching the show in tents and couches replacing the typical front row. Models sashayed down the runway in wide-brimmed hats and airy dresses with cave-like prints and embroideries, silk jacquards and cardigans. The western feel was mostly alive in the jumpers that featured knitted horses and in long skirts presenting a fury of patchworks. Georgia O'Keeffe’s wardrobe was a big influence on the collection, bringing forth the vivid spirit of a wild femininity. With a series of very thrilling visual images, Chiuri magically energized Calabasas’ desert in the presence of celebrities such as Rihanna and Charlize Theron, amongst others.
