In the words of Yves Saint Laurent “Fashions fade, style is eternal”. By the same token, we’ve seen a lot of past trends disappearing only to reappear again a decade – or more – later. And since seventies’ staples haven been making a big comeback this year, it only seemed fair the sporty corduroys would follow suit. So what are corduroys really?

They’re the more rigid version of velvet; or better yet the more “intellectual” form of velvet. While velvet made the initial step into the “world of comebacks”, corduroys followed suit shortly after, making wild appearances on the Fall 2017 runways. The brands reinterpreted the trendy fabrics in a variety of way and shades; for instance, Nina Ricci adopted a chic approach with a corduroy coat, while Ermanno Scervino created a matching corduroy suit with a pasty color palette. In fact, on the runways, colors skewed from fall-ish hues to more eye-catching tones, but perhaps the most endearing thing about it all was the fact that the fabric invaded almost all forms of clothing, from jumpsuits, to trousers, jackets, coats and believe it or not, accessories!

We’ve come to find that the perfect way to pull off corduroys is to balance things out. Meaning, if you’re wearing corduroy trousers, then it’s best if you pair them with a shirt. And if you’re more on the corduroy jacket continuum, then a pair of jeans will definitely suit it best.

Below, we’ve scoured the must-have corduroy pieces! To the Photo Gallery!
